At the southern end of the beautiful Orcia Valley, in the extreme south of Tuscany on the border with Lazio and Umbria, lies the small town of San Casciano dei Bagni. The Roman Emperor Octavian visited this place regularly because of its sources. The landscape is beautiful, the place lies at the foot of the mountain Cetona and is surrounded by green forests and meadows.
Here you will also find natural pools and waterfalls where you can swim for free. It is recommended to come by car from the place, or you can enjoy nature and take a long walk of several hundred meters. The free baths are in particular the “Grande Bagno”, the large bath, which is characterized by a natural hydromassage. In addition, there is, among other things, the Bagno Bossolo, which does not have quite as hot water. Please note that free offers do not mean that there is a particularly good infrastructure (changing facilities, sanitary facilities, etc.).
There is a thermal baths nearby, including a hotel above the FONTEVERDE thermal spring. The spring was already used by the Etruscans and Romans. The hotel is an older Medici house that seems to be showing its age. However, the area is extremely beautiful (if you are staying overnight, book a room with a view!). The standard of the hotel is “good” four stars. Entrance tickets can also be purchased without an overnight stay; prices start at around 14 euros for an afternoon ticket (excluding towel and lounger rental). Everything is very much designed for physical well-being, relaxation and a soothing look. There is also a fitness center, a Kneipp bath, a Turkish steam bath and a restaurant.
The temperature of the thermal water is around 42 degrees Celsius. The water is suitable for the usual therapies and treatments of the musculoskeletal system and the respiratory system. The health programs are based on the Equilibrium philosophy.
