With the camper in Tuscany

Content

Road traffic in Italian:

When you watch traffic, you think that there are hardly any rules and that everyone does their own thing. However, you shouldn't be infected by this, because the penalties for driving too fast or other traffic offenses are significantly more expensive than in Germany.
Please always drive with your lights on, because daytime running lights are mandatory in Italy.

So that parking doesn't break your holiday budget:

Illegal parking is fined with at least 30 euros. But there are designated areas where you can park. For example, an area outlined in white indicates a free parking space. Again a black and yellow line means that parking is absolutely prohibited and if there are yellow lines, these are parking spaces only for buses or taxis.

Motorhome on the beach

To the big campers among us:

The Streets in the old towns of Tuscany are often just as historic and small as they were thousands of years ago. A quick look at Google Maps will tell you whether your camper can actually be driven into the city or whether you'd rather park outside of town and then take public transport.

Free travel on toll highways in Italy

There are three ways that Toll payable quickly and easily. It is best to find out before the trip whether you would like to take action beforehand and then have free travel on site or whether you would rather pay on site every time and get in line.

Bip & Go For a one-time fee of €10 plus a monthly rental fee of €1,70, they offer a transponder for the windshield. Be sure to check the external dimensions of your campervan, as the transponder is only compatible with certain vehicles. If you have opted for Bip&Go, you can drive through the gate with the orange "T" at toll booths.

Acts under similar conditions the Telepass. Here, too, you will receive a transponder for the windshield in advance. The rent is 1,71 euros per day and the activation of the box costs 4,87 euros once.

The third option is the Viacard. With this, you can use the "Uscite riservate Viacard" gate and pay the toll cashless with your Viacard.

You should know that before you arrive

Many campsites in Italy require swimming caps in the pool. It is not a general Italian law, but it is compulsory to wear one in many places. If you forget to bring a cap with you, you can usually get one at reception for a small fee.

Before you arrive, make sure that the reception at your campsite has a fixed lunch break and that this is exactly when you will not be able to arrive.

When you arrive at the reception, familiarize yourself with the general provisions of the site. Here everyone has their own rules, such as the midday rest, night rest and when the entry and exit is permitted on the square.
